The most economical fuel cars

When it comes to working out the costs of an economical car, many things need to be considered outside of the vehicle’s actual price tag. Insurance, car tax, repairs and maintenance all add up, as does the cost of actually fuelling your vehicle. 4X4s and other vehicles with large engines can be real gas guzzlers, but there are many cars out there that are a lot cheaper to fill up and run.

Peugeot 208

The Peugeot 208 1.6 BlueHDi features one of the most efficient non-hybrid engines, claiming 94 mpg. Even though it may be a little lower in real driving conditions, that is still incredibly impressive. Moreover, coupled with emissions of 79g/km CO²that means it is exempt from car tax, costs are reduced even more. Other vehicles in the new Peugeot 208 BlueHDi range also achieve similarly high mpg and low emissions, but the 1.6-liter engine is the best.

Hyundai i20

A hybrid car, the Hyundai i20 1.1 CRDi Blue boasts 88.3mpg levels. Mixed with its electric capabilities, this makes it incredibly cheap to fuel and run. However, taking 16 seconds to do 0-62mph makes it a better option for inner-city driving and not zooming down the motorway. Still, it’s spacious and features a generous boot size.

Ford Fiesta

One of the UK’s most popular cars is the Ford Fiesta 1.5 TDCiECOnetic which offers mpg levels similar to the Hyundai i20, the cheapest fuel. A three or five-door supermini, it maintains the same quality drive that has made it such a high-seller over the past few years, including sharp steering, fantastic grip, and so much more.

Vauxhall Corsa

The Vauxhall Corsa 1.3 CDTiecoFLEX is by far the cheapest to fuel out of the brand’s competitive range. One of the most economical cars around, with CO² levels below 100g/km, also has a relatively low starting price for new models. Moreover, it provides even better value when purchased second-hand through AA Cars.

Renault Clio

Everything in the brand new range of Renault Clio cars promises low fuel consumption, but the 1.5 DCi 90 ECO model is the best. This also claims a staggering 88.3mpg and is tax-free due to low CO² levels. Moreover, style and substance are maintained with its sleek exterior and fun driving capabilities.

Consider any one of these cheap cars to fuel when picking your next vehicle.
